Fifty years from now people will commonly refer to the two giants of Egyptian musical theater and dance: Mahmoud Reda of the 20th century, and Mohamed el Hosseny of the 21st! Single-handedly preserving the dying male folk dance of Suez region known as Simsimiyya, while also molding it into his own modern dance form for both male and female dancers, el Hosseny is not only bringing both traditional folkloric and Oriental Egyptian dance into the 21st century, but into the international dance scene like never before, with top-rate theatrical dance productions like Layali Simisimiyya, now in limited release on DVD, which easily rivals sell-out international dance productions such as "River Dance". If you missed him this year, stay tuned for details of his Summer 2010 tour of the US and Canada, sponsored by Nourhan Sharif.

Many thanks to Nourhan Sharif for sponsoring Hosseny's first US tour!
Thanks also to:
  • Elaine and Phil Pasquini for media coverage and beautiful photographs of this event,
  • all the dancers who performed in our two shows, and/or helped out with promotions (Adriana, MaShuqa, Debbie and more),
  • MaShuqa and Carl for helping out and for taking excellent event photographs,
  • Pena Pachamama and the Georges Lammam Ensemble for hosting our dancers on Sunday evening
  • And especially: Mohamed el Hosseny for coming all the way to CA from Finland for these events and being an incredibly gracious and patient guest artist despite jetlag and a busy schedule. Shukran!
